Congratulations Pesh – 3Food4U awarded Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award – October 2023
Pesh Kapasiawala BCA was awarded the Prime Minister’s Point of Light Award, recognising outstanding individual volunteers who are making a change in their community. Pesh, who set up and runs 3Food4U, a community surplus hub, and is one of our Working Well organisations. 3Food4U was set up during the pandemic to provide free groceries, clothing and essential to those in need. Individuals don’t need to complete an assessment or have a referral.
The collaborate with local schools, community groups, churches and government agencies to develop solutions to support people in the community. Run entirely with a team of over 300 volunteers, with Hubs across Essex. They have provided 180,000 meals to over 12,000 people, saving 1,500 tonnes of surplus food going into landfill.
Pesh has now expanded the initiative to further support vulnerable members of the community through initiatives such as providing free school suppliers before the start of the academic year, dementia-friendly Memory Cafes and a mentoring conference programme for school pupils. They also offer a Job Cafe twice a month, providing CV and interview advice, and works with Essex County Council to hold numeracy training support.
