Thursday March 2nd is World Book Day where traditionally, children attend school and nursery dressed as their favourite book character.  But why should kids have all the fun.

Here are some easy ideas for grown ups to participate n World Book Day too.

  • Hold a book Swap – ask staff to bring exchange a copy of a book they’ve enjoyed with someone else, or donate old books to a company library for others to enjoy?
  • Childhood Memories – ask staff to write a couple of sentences about their favourite childhood book – maybe they can find the cover online and add that to their memories
  • Could you start a journal for personal use? Journalling has been show to be useful for processing thoughts and goal setting
  • Writing Group – They say everyone has a book inside them?  How about starting a short story group and share your stories either by reading them or creating a virtual library? Maybe you could write a children’s story to share with any youngsters you know? Perhaps you could collaborate on a writing project with a colleague? Or maybe it’s even time to start that novel that you have inside you?
  • Start a Book Club – Could staff agree on a book title and meet every couple of months online or in person to discuss? If time is poor, how about a Whatsapp Book Club where people can discuss the book at times that are convenient for them?  You can apply for a Book Group card at your local library, which will allow you to order mutliple copies of your chosen title.  Find out more here
  • Who’s brave enough to dress up as a book character for the day? Perhaps you could get sponsored and make a donation to https://literacytrust.org.uk/
  • Bedtime story – Many of us go to bed with our screens rather than a book these days but reading is a much better way to wind down and help your body relax and prepare for sleep. When was the last time you took a good book to bed?
  • National Literacy Trust – UK Literacy Charity – Are an independent charity working with schools and communities to give disadvantaged children the literacy skills to succeed in life. www.literacytrust.org.uk

We’d love to hear what you have organised for World Book Day … it will count towards your Accreditation as well!
