💙 World Diabetes Day 2026: Know Your Risk. Know Your Numbers. Take Action.

This World Diabetes Day, 14 November, we’re encouraging workplaces across Essex to help employees take small steps towards protecting their long-term health.

Type 2 diabetes can develop gradually and without obvious symptoms. Understanding your personal risk and taking early action can make a real difference. The Diabetes UK Know Your Risk tool considers factors including age, ethnicity, family history, waist measurement, BMI and blood pressure. [diabetes.org.uk]

At Essex Working Well, we also encourage people to know their numbers. Blood pressure, weight and BMI, alongside lifestyle factors, can provide a useful picture of health and help people recognise where positive changes or further advice may be beneficial. Our SiSU Digital Health Checks provide a confidential five-minute workplace check with instant feedback on key health indicators. Or you can book our Outreach team to deliver 30 minute NHS Health Checks.

🥗 Eating a balanced diet
🚶 Moving more and sitting less
⚖️ Maintaining a healthy weight
🚭 Not smoking
💙 Taking opportunities for preventative health checks

These are all positive steps towards better long-term health. Essex Working Well resources also recommend 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, alongside strengthening activity on at least two days.

For employers: World Diabetes Day is a great opportunity to start conversations, share trusted resources and encourage staff to understand their health risks.
