The Morning Champions program from Fusion is aimed at combating social isolation and men’s physical and mental health, through exercise and mindful practices. The group is aimed primarily at men who may not be exercising regularly and who have been socially prescribed by a community or health agency to improve their social connections, mental health, and overall well-being.

Fusion members and centre guests will be able to book onto the groups but a reserve of ten places at each centre will be held open for referral clients who will be able to access the ten weeks at their chosen centre for free.

The program will run for 10 consecutive weeks – Starting at Halstead Leisure Centre on Tuesday the 5th of March 2024 and Witham Leisure Centre on Wednesday the 6th of March – Running on the same days and times for the duration of the program.

We would encourage men who are referred to attend at least one out of the two morning sessions every week for the entire 10 weeks.

The two sessions are:

07:30 to 08:20 – Holistic Warriors: A powerful morning routine to kick start the day, utilising natural bodywork, boxing conditioning flexibility, and resistance training. The session finishes with the Feldenkrais Method which utilises “Awareness Through Movement” to reorganise connections between the brain and body, improving alignment and the form of body movements. This has a calming effect on the mind, which allows practitioners to exercise and move in meditation.

08:30 to 09:20 – Mindful Champions: Calming and yet powerful blending the flow of Yoga with the core strength of Pilates – Personal Connection and relaxation via breathwork and body awareness, preparing and priming the body and mind for the day ahead. Perfect as a follow on from the more vigorous “Holistic Warriors” or as a great standalone session improving both physical and mental health for practitioners.

Both sessions end with a short group discussion enabling the participants to give feedback, chat and connect with each other in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

The sessions combine the science-based benefits of physical exercise and movement with the wisdom and healing of Eastern practices such as breathwork and mindfulness. The body work is geared towards building strength and fitness levels as well as increasing functional mobility, whilst the holistic aspects are to reduce stress, anxiety and are designed to enhance positive mental health and well-being.

Fusion instructor Eddy Sackey will be delivering the program. Eddy is an experienced PT for Fusion but also is head of Integrated Physical Therapy (IPT) a practice in Braintree, Essex, offering a wide range of services such as physical therapy, nutritional therapy, sports massage, acupuncture, Tai-Chi, Pilates, Yoga, Sports Rehabilitation, and one-on-one personal training.
